Thanks—there are some cool little towns outside of Philadelphia I’d be interested in moving to. |
| I don't know if anyone is actually reading this anymore for ideas or if we're into full "feds fiddled while Rome burned!" derailment, but New York, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, and Maryland are creating efforts to recruit former feds into their state governments. Could be good for younger feds who are okay with moving. Keep an eye on what Maryland is doing. DC is also doing a huge jobs fair soon. Virginia is also theoretically interested but many haven't been impressed by their work so far; many of their employment pages go to broken links or have jobs listed that would have been fine very early in a career but don't make sense for someone who has invested a ton of resources into a higher degree. |
I think a great many people feel the federal government is substantially bloated and don’t view it the same way as you. |
And yet, I have a better view of it than they do. They are uninformed. |
Completely made up by nasty MaGA moron who wants to berate people who have lost their jobs and tell them they have no right to feel bad |
That’s certainly one perspective. |
And how's your luck been convincing them of that? |
I have seen multiple posts now describing how it is the combination of fed layoffs amongst other issues (i.e. the total dismantling of agencies, funding cuts, etc.) that is going to be an economic catastrophe. Obviously fed employment is unique in that what happens to these agencies has a much wider ripple effect than some start ups going under. I’ve read that anywhere from .5 to 2 private sector jobs are created from public sector jobs. You get rid of regulatory agencies — suddenly you don’t need those practice areas as law firms. You get rid of the EPA — suddenly you don’t need environmental protection jobs. Repeatedly throughout this thread people have pointed out the unique nature of these layoffs. Like it or not the economy is intertwined with these layoffs. |
This is going to turn PA blue (er) so I’m all for it. |
| Gov. Moore said last week that MD will fast-track qualified and cleared former feds into teaching certification, but I can't find anything about this on maryland dot gov. |
A great many people think that mice can be transgender and that “150 year olds” are receiving social security. So I’m not sure this is quite the argument you think it is. |
| I don't think the whole "the federal government was fine, there's nothing to reduce" crowd is doing themselves any favors. It just makes them look ridiculous. We all know there is a huge amount of government waste, as well as spending on things that are not priorities for most Americans. Keep singing that tune, though -- I'm happy for Dems to keep telling voters the issue is their lying eyes. |
Often the same people who complain when they are on hold at SS or their refund does not arrive promptly or their highway does not get needed repairs... |
No one wants to hear that they don’t know what they’re talking about—but it doesn’t make it any less true. Regardless, that is not my job. That’s our elected officials’ jobs. People who know just as well as I do that most government agencies are incredibly lean, and could benefit from some restructuring and shifting of resources away from truly bloated programs at DOD, and other fraud ridden hellscapes, to better uses that improve voters lives. |
Funny that. |
