Returning to a crowded workplace while pregnant

Anonymous
What have your OBs advised regarding returning to a crowded workplace that is not requiring masks? I’m newly pregnant and have an appointment to ask mine, but it’s not for a few weeks. Curious to learn what others have heard.

Mine said to get/ or be vaccinated and if you want wear a mask.

Am 22 weeks pregnant and received the same guidance.

Overall to lower your risk of transmission via vaccination and wearing a mask and avoiding unnecessary exposure (like going into the store instead of doing curbside).

My OB said we should have pretty strong protection with the vaccines. That said, I would be in the last few weeks of my pregnancy when my office is scheduled to reopen, and they didn’t think it really made sense for me to go back for just a couple of weeks.

Honestly with the delta variant and potential mask mandates coming back, I’m not sure if offices are going to reopen in the near future anyway.

This is OP. Mine is opening next week, and my work is actually moving us from individual to shared offices - essentially putting 40 people in a space meant for 20. If anyone is in a similar situation, (and I hope you are not) wondering what the guidance might be around this.

When I was in the hospital giving birth one of my nurses was pregnant and wearing a mask (before vaccines were widely available).

Very simple: get vaccinated and wear a mask. Get the kn94 from soom labs or something similar

OP talk to your work place tell them early you’re pregnant snd need the time to get vaccinated (whether now or in second trimester). You shouldn’t just accept you have to go in, make the tough decisions and conversations if you are not comfortable.

Mask and vaccinate. I’m pregnant and never got to stay home. Not even a day. I’ve been coughed on by covid patients and had a whole unit of covid patients unknowingly. That vaccine and masking kept me safe. I’m asking my OB for a booster this week if possible.

Are you vaccinated? If so, wear a mask and you'll be fine. If not, get vaccinated asap, ask your work to let you work from home until you're fully vaccinated, and then wear a mask and you'll be fine.

My friend is in a very forward facing position. Easily interacts with 50+ people a day in close proximity. She's vaccinated and had been just wearing a surgical mask. Now because of the increase in cases where she is (not crazy yet thankfully) she wears an envo with a surgical mask over it.

Would love to hear what others OBs are saying about boosters. I am also a healthcare worker who got the vaccine around Christmas (before pregnancy) and concerned I will need another one- currently 24 weeks pregnant.

If you don’t feel comfortable (vaccinated or not), maybe you can ask for a Doctor’s note that may allow you to continue working remotely if possible. May have to go through HR.
