Infertility Support and Discussion

My LP is about 9 days. I've been charting and taking B6, which so far hasn't changed anything. My doctor said that a
study a few years back debunked progesterone deficiency as an underlying reason (I could be remembering that incorrectly). Something about you can only really tell if you do a biopsy of the uterine lining. He said that in cases of a short LP, the women are just ovulating late and that's the way their bodies are - and it shouldn't effect their chances of getting pregant. FWIW, I did get pregnant with DC1 with the same schedule. I spotted heavily for several days when it happened. Actually thought i'd had my period. While it worked, I'm nervous that I just lucked out the first time. We've been trying to conceive for 4 months now, and i'm 34. My doctor said I can come in and do a progesterone test anyways, but he doesn't think a treatment for that would make a difference. What do think? Should I do the test, etc, anyways? Should I consider seeing someone different? |
| I saw 4 REs (including the famous Dr Davis at Cornell) and none of them were at all concerned that I have a short luteal phase (mine is 10 days) and none of them suggested testing my progesterone. They seemed much more concerned with whether my cycles are regular. |
| Hmm, well, I guess that's comforting to hear, because I have a short luteal phase, too (shortest 9 days, and up to 12), and my RE dismissed the progesterone testing completely. I have a question OP: was the heavy spotting (with your first child) really like your period, or when did you know it was not? Have you guys tried taking Aspirin? |

OP here. Thanks 13:17 - that's comforting. I kind of still don't understand how it's supposedly not supposed to be an issue, but I'll just try not to stress about it.
00:39 - to answer, my period typically starts with 2 or 3 very light days, then gets heavy. With DC#1 it lasted for 6 days, but never got heavy. But it was heavy enough to merit tampons. On the last day I even went out with a girlfriend for a day of wine and girlie stuff to cheer me up. Then the next day I thought...."hmm, it's kind of weird that my period never got really heavy. I'll take a test just in case." And surprise! Perhaps the light phase shouldn't actually be counted as my period and my LP is longer than thought. It still happens, but now starts as early as day 25 or 26 of my cycle (and I ovulated on day 20 this month). I haven't tried baby aspirin or heard of that as a fertility aid. Please educate me - thanks! |
