| 2022 when the new inventory comes on the market |
It’s not that simple. One of the main drivers of the vehicle shortage is due to lack of microchips. But OP I’m with you. I need a new-to-me car and the prices are bonkers now. |
| I work in the automotive supply chain. Inventory will not be stable for at least a year. |
|
I am so over all this pandemic BS. I can’t wait for all things to get back to normal. In the meantime, people willing to overpay for things (cars, renovations, appliances, vacations) are the problem.
Just say no and the prices will come back down. |
How am I supposed to say no to a new fridge when my freezer stopped freezing? I’m sure people who reasonably can kick the can are doing so. |
Exactly, about to be a family of 5, one car is almost dead. I was really hoping to wait but I’m stuck. |
| Late 22 is what most are expecting. Keep in mind the rental companies still have not restocked their fleets and they will consume a lot of vehicles first. |
| It’s also about the moronic endless unemployment supplement. Pumping endless money into the economy is inflationary. Duh. |
Yup. And the multiple stimuli to people making $150k. A bunch of people with extra money drove all the prices up. Not exactly shocking. |
I don’t think the majority of buyers fall into this category. Buy skinnier carseats. |
|
We are a family that received all the stimulus (HHI of 120k) and who need a new-used car and we are still waiting to see if prices come down before we buy. We spent most of our stimulus on childcare while schools were closed, and to plug a gap in my earnings from last year, when I went part-time for two months to take care of our kids when everything was closed.
Everyone we know who has bought a new car in the last year is rich and relatively unimpacted by the pandemic. |
You really think that people receiving stimulus money spent it on cars that they only bought because of those big stimulus bucks? |
| I'm enjoying it. Selling wife's car right now, paid 48k 3.5 years ago and Carvana agreed to buy it for 37.5. You really cannot beat that. I'll sell my other car in six months and hope stuff is still overvalued. I've been able to place orders for new cars at MSRP or a slight discount (got 3% off on a porsche special order). Sucks to be a used car buyer these days but c'est la vie |
