Rising 6th grader just asked me if APS middle school has recess and I realized that I don’t know. Is there any sort of break in the day besides lunch analogous to elementary school recess? |
Nope, lunch and the few mins between each class are considered the only "free" time. |
LOL! |
Is lunch as structured as elementary school or can the kids go outside or to the library or something? |
Sadly no. I wish there was. I teach high school and I swear they need a big kid recess too. |
It's too bad and they really should have it. For those who poo poo this idea, even my catholic school back in the day had break/recess for middle school students. |
Swanson allows the kids to play frisbee or football in the field during lunch, according to my DD. |
Mine was in 7th last year in a good school and only went in person for three months. He saw his share of vaping in the bathrooms, selling various drugs and sexual acts. Middle schoolers don’t need unsupervised recess time. It was this way even when I went to middle school. |
No. Tell your kid he or she is in the big leagues now. No juice boxes, no recess. |
LOL. OP here. Thank you everyone. Not surprising, but unfortunate there isn't more time simply to be away from a desk during the day. |
At WMS they are allowed to be in the courtyard during lunch. They do have PE a few times a week. |
I had no idea middle schools here didn't have recess! My middle school had an hour of recess after lunch. This is disappointing. |
+1 Unfortunately public schools don't offer recess for middle school or junior high. Every private middle school or junior high I know of does offer it. I wish public middle schools had recess. It is such a great thing for kids to have free, running around time. |
Damn even the elementary kids here don’t get an hour of recess |
The MS day is 17 minutes shorter than the ES school day, so they have a little more free time after school. |
