Postpartum hair loss anyone?

Anonymous
Hi all, i gave birth for the second time 4 months ago and my hair is literally falling out in clumps. I had shedding after my first but this is so much worse. Anyone who experinced the same with suggestions other than continuing with postnatal vitamins? Any specific hair product/supplement that helped?

This happened to me. It was a nightmare when it happened. I lost more than I had ever gained. It did all grow back in normally within a few months though. Try taking biotin supplements.

I've been doing scalp massages with hair oil. I saw it on IG. I feel like maybe it's helping. My hair fell out all around my hairline and after a couple of months, I'm finally getting to where I don't need to wear a headband every day.

That happened to me, it was awful. I was losing 600-700 hairs a day (yes, I counted. And then sobbed uncontrollably, ha).

I did find out that I had a thyroid issue, but I don’t know if that contributed. I didn’t lose any hair at all for the entire 9 months I was pregnant, so I think it was just 9 months of hair loss occurring all at once.

Hair during pregnancy is weird. My body hair didn’t grow at all during my second trimester, it was awesome not having to shave for 3 months.

This happened to me, and my hairstylist gave me the warning that it will happen again to a lesser extent when you wean (a heads up I appreciated since I hadn’t heard that before)

Keep taking your prenatals and add a biotin supplement if you want to feel like you’re doing something proactive. Once fallout slows, get a cut that works with what you have left but make sure it’s something that will suit a mom bun.

Quite common. In fact, every book about pregnancy mentions this. Your hair becomes thicker during pregnancy then sheds the extra after you have your baby.
It happens to some degree to every single mom.

Yes is what happened to me. I wouldn’t worry about it for now, OP.

Continue prenatals, don’t wash your hair everyday, minimize brushing, etc.

It should come back.

I’ve had 4 kids, and my hair came back…albeit wavy/curly. So weird.

Talked to me Derm who put me on Minoxdyl. Worked wonders. I had to stop breastfeeding to do it though.

I had this after all my kids, right around the same time. It grew back each time. It was my least favorite part of pregnancy/postpartum.

The best is when I grows back, and for a few months all the little hairs stick out so you look like a dandelion. UGH.

Yeah my hairline receded like an inch and then all the hairs grew back at one so I had horrible little baby bang wing things.

OP here, thanks everyone! I guess the only way is through. I just had a much milder version after first baby - my hair is a sad little strand right now 😩

I lost fistfulls with my first and it never really recovered. I have tons of fly-aways now. On the bright side, #2 didn't seem to add to the damage

SAME. I think it also corresponds to how lush your hair is while being pregnant. Currently pregnant with baby 3, who is a girl and my hair is FAB. I haven't lost a hair in months (my bathroom floor is white, so I was used to vacuuming my hair). I know I'm in for it in about 6 months.

It's a great time to try out new hair styles, bangs, fringe, layers. Some of it is hormonal and some is from losing 20-30lbs I think. I have a boy and a girl and my hair loss after my boy was really bad. Clumps.
