Catoctin Mountain State Park and Greenbrier State Park have lakes with beaches. Both about an hour from Gburg. If you want salt water, southern Maryland is about an hour and a half away and there is North Beach, Breezy Point, Flag Ponds and Calvert Cliffs on the Chesapeake Bay. Ocean City is ~3 hours away.

Rehoboth or Lewes, DE

Rehoboth is on the ocean and has a big boardwalk, and Lewes is on the bay.

Bethany and Fenwick are roughly 20 minutes further. Ditto for Ocean City, MD.

It’s not just a map thing. There’s beaches in the technical sense marked on maps. Then there are what most people would call a beach.

It’s actually called Sandy Point. It’s not that great. The “sand” is more like dirt.

A family member who lives in Gaithersburg just took her 4y old to Colonial Beach. They had a great time - it is a day trip kind of thing.

Note that its on a river and not an ocean. It's great for what it is, but FYI.

There is literally nothing there and if a river beach is what you want there are plenty closer.
