If capris are awful, recommend some pants

I know there was a thread about this, but I can't find it. So if capris are terrible, and I don't want to wear dresses or skirts to run all over the playground, recommend some cute spring and summer pants. Specifics, please!

Hmm, I don't have specifics but what about lightweight chino-type pants. Whats wrong with skirts at the playground, are you doing cartwheels? Or what about Bermuda shorts? I wouldn't wear them because I like casual skirts but I think people do.

FWIW capris are only awful if you're not thin and slightly taller.

ann taylor loft has a wide leg VERY thin material trouser jean out right now that would probably work well.

For these cooler days I wear some nice stretchy pinwale cords I got at Talbots -- dressier than jeans but easy to move around in. I also have a few pairs of chinos from JCrew that are great for casual/around the neighborhood.

Anthropologie have loads of lightweight pants that can be worn down or rolled up a bit for a cropped look. I just bought a pair called "Shopping Day Pants" which I really like - have a look online.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm slim but only 5' 4" so I have to be careful with anything too wide-legged and with crops -- they can crop me a little too much. I think skirts are great but while I'm not doing cartwheels, I often do run quite a bit at the playground, or climb, and the latter especially doesn't seem great in skirts!

I throw fashion to the dogs when I am at the playground. I would never wear a skirt. Cartwheels? No. But I climb up the ladders, go down the slide, and sit in the sandbox. There are days my son will not play unless I play with him, and now that he is finally getting into playing with other kids, he is often the only one his age at the playground. So mommy gets called in off the bench

So I admit to wearing capris - and cropped pants...and Bermuda shorts (I forget, are these taboo or good?)

Oooh, I like those! They only have in a size 10, though. Boo. I would have bought them.

I'm not typically a Lands End-wearing woman. Most of my stuff is from J.Crew, Anthropologie and GASP Target! But I love the Lands End women's cargo skort. Looks like a skirt, but has shorts underneath. Perfect to throw on with a cute tank or t-shirt and sandals or flip flops. The shorts underneath make it a good "playground" skirt, as well.
