Fauquier is offering a “virtual academy” option for the fall.
https://www.fauquiernow.com/fauquier_news/entry/fauquier-school-system-accepting-virtual-academy-applications-2021 It looks like it will be a combination of sync/Async and kids will still be eligible to participate in sports. |
I think this is a good idea. With the Delta and other mutations on the rise I think all the school systems should be looking at doing this. If I were a betting person I would bet that there is going to be another stint of fully virtual for all school districts coming up this fall/winter. |
This is exactly what APS is doing. |
That’s not going to happen in highly vaccinated areas, like Loudoun. |
I don’t understand why kids would be allowed to do sports if they need to be virtual due to Covid. |
Yeah, it’s not going to happen. Everyone knows better now. Plus all the parents and teachers are either vaccinated or choose not to be. Carry on. |
By my reading, they can only close individual buildings for limited amounts of time per SB 1303. If a local school board determines, in collaboration with the local health department and in strict adherence to "Step 2: Determine the Level of School Impact" in the Department of Health's Interim Guidance to K-12 School Reopening or any similar provision in any successor guidance document published by the Department of Health, that the transmission of COVID-19 within a school building is at a high level, the local school board may provide fully remote virtual instruction or a combination of in-person instruction and remote virtual instruction to the at-risk groups of students indicated as the result of such collaboration or, if needed, the whole student population in the school building, but in each instance only for as long as it is necessary to address and ameliorate the level of transmission of COVID-19 in the school building. |
Agreed, if you are worried about being in the classroom, then you should be worried about them in the locker room or when playing a sport. If you choose virtual for school then you choose virtual for all activities. |
I think this is pretty unlikely. We had tons of student quarantines at my school all year but by May when most adult family members could be vaccinated, they basically stopped. Counties with high vaccination rates, at least, will all stay open with only temporary quarantines of ES classes as needed. Not sure what the vaccination rates in Fauquier are, though. |
