U14 and above Soccer Formation (Girls)

What is the typical Soccer Formation does your U14 and above Girls team use and what formations do you typically see from other teams?

Do teams typically use 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or other formations?

I love to hear/learn more details about each formations, it’s effectiveness and types of skills/talent needed for each.

(Please don’t troll about kick & run tactics, etc.)

Should be using multiple formations and using players multiple roles until middle of U15

Players should understand how to use:
Back 3, 4, and 5
Single and double pivot midfield
Wingers and partnered strikers

By U15, if your child is uncomfortable with basic concepts of positional player, your coach has been playing to win.

The formations I have seen so far from from teams in mid Atlantic are 4 3 3, 4 2 3 1, and 3 5 2. Teams can do plenty with these formations.

Formations used depend on player abilities. A coach wants to maximize the effect of their players while also minimizing the effects of the opponent’s best players.

Yeah great. The thing older youth teams can do is work on being able to shift formations in order to gain experience. So in reality you will see clubs using a formation to give players experience in using that formation even if it is not for any tactical reason. And that is fine. The experience in shifting formations is the point.

If your coach is playing a Back 5, they are probably not playing to win, but playing not to lose (by too much).

I love people who act like they are just stuck at a club. Leave if you don't like the club. You don't need to bash a club constantly, just leave.

At U12, we played 4-2-3. At U13, we played 4-3-3. At U14, we were told we will either use 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Back 5 on defense converts to 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 on offense. It's pretty common to play with wingbacks and doesn't have to be overly defensive. Depends on the mindset and how good the team is at playing it.

Unless a team has a very talented Attacking Midfielder, coaches won’t employ a 4-2-3-1. I’ve seen mostly 4-3-3.

I've seen U14 1-2-1-1-2-1
