Really dumb question about backpacks

| This is such a dumb question. What size backpack should I buy for my first grader? She’s my eldest and was virtual all of kindergarten so not sure if what kids these days need backpack wise and if they carry books home. | Buy the large so it’ll actually hold a folder. She’ll also grow into it a bit. |

| If you live is the DMV, her backpack should also be big enough to fit her winter coat. But, around here kids are not carrying text books back and forth to school but do carry library books. |

Do the large size. The small is for ages 3-5. It actually does fit a folder but since you’re child is in 1st - definitely
Want the larger size. I’m going to see if I can get away with one more year with ours with my son in kindergarten. Also don’t get the name on it - I made the mistake and now o read about how I’m making it easier For kidnappers! |

My 21 year old son is using his LL Bean K backpack (with his name embroidered of course) to go to work this summer. It is the right size and still in good shape.

| Get the PBK in large. We bought one in K and it is still going strong as he enters 5th. |

| If you want them to use it more than one year, I’d get a plain color in a different brand, like Jansport or LL bean. Also a large. Some kids will be okay with PBK as they get older but many won’t. |

| My kids' K teacher recommended full size ones, even though they look huge. In winter, they keep their jackets in their backpacks in an effort to prevent lice transmission. |

I'd get the large size too. If it's empty a lot, oh well. If you have extra space, you will be shoving her lunch and a coat and whatever else you can inside. If she's already 4 feet tall, a large one will be fine.
We have a Lands End backpack that is on it's 3rd year of use and is holding up really well. They have good sales and it only cost $20, so I figure if she didn't like the color as she gets older, it's not a huge thing to replace it. It's held up really well! I definitely bought it a little big, but now I'm glad I did. |

Agree with this. We're the exception to the rule that use a smaller backpack and then upgrade. We use the smaller one for other things, but for K & 1st it was nice for them not to be drowning under their backpacks. Up to you if that matters to you or not. |

| My HS kid never like the small string backpacks that were in a few years ago. He started using his small size one again for camping. |

I also got the Lands End one for my then-kindergartener. She's going into 4th, and it still looks great, although she still looks a bit like a turtle carrying it.
