I've had two kids, now am 35 and I am now getting these awful cyst pimples on my chin. It happens about every month - one month it's on one side, the other it's on the other side. They are hard, like a tiny pea, and they hurt and are very red. They rarely turn into a whitehead. They just are big and ugly for about a week and a half.
Anyone else have these and have any advice on how to get rid of them? |
| They're hormonal. The pill helps, as does Pro-Activ or some other drying pimple treatment (Burt's Bees has a good tea tree oil one). |

I'm 40 and have had the exact same problem for about 5 years. It drives me nuts and I inevitably pick at them to try and make them feel better, which they never do, and end up with scars.
See a dermatologist. I have been using an RX antibiotic gel now for about 18 months and I have far fewer breakouts. I just started a new one about two months ago called Aczone and I am happy with it. Good luck. |
| You have adult acne - very common. The pill will help but if you don't take it, go see a derm who will give you a clear topical liquid you put on. |
| Yep, talk to a derm. It's hormonal. Sorry. |

I get those. Haven't gotten around to seeing a dermatogist yet, but Mario Badescu's drying lotion works for me after they
appear. |
| second the PP on Mario Badescu's products --- I like the Buffering Solution for the cysts like you describe (that don't ever have a head, but are big, red and painful and leave a hard knot under the skin forever). If you use the Buffering Solution nightly, it helps keep the cysts at bay, and the ones that do come up, last much shorter and leave a less intense red mark, IMHO. |
| I had them in my mid thirties. I had to go on a low-dose antibiotic for a while then some maintenance with cleanser etc. But yes, you have to go to a dermatologist! |
| I went off the pill about 2 months ago and am now struggling with big time acne. Do I have no choice but to get back on the pill to control these breakouts? I don't know if the dermatologist is just going to give me a topical treatment to treat the acne I get instead of something hormonal to prevent me from continuing to breakout. |
| I use a hot compress on them. That helps. |

Someone on DCUM recommended www.acne.org. Based on the info there, I bought Alpha-Hydrox gel (http://www.neotericcosmetics.com/product-details.aspx?iid=66). I love it and it is doing wonderful things for my acne. No oral anti-biotics, affordable, and helps reduce wrinkles.
A dermatologist had put me on ridiculously expensive antibiotics and a mousse, but this stuff is way better. Burt's Bees blemish stick helps reduce inflammation of existing cysts with tea tree oil and witch hazel. |
| I have the same problem on my forehead and could count on every month getting at least 2 big red pimples there. However, I started using the neutrogena acne wash and the rapid clear daily treatment pads and my skin is much better. The cost (less than $15 for both and lasts about a month) is also a big plus. |
| Same problem here-- I'm 35 and I get at least one painful cystic acne bump a month on my forehead. I had to switch my entire cleansing regimen to Dermalogica brand. Go to Ulta or a reputable facialist and get the "skin-Clearing" mini kit-- you won't be disappointed. |
| I have the same problem but, for me, they are due to rosacea. See a dermatologist... |
| Changing hormones. You could take antibiotics but can't stay on them for a long time because you don't want to develop resistance. The pill is another option. Or anti-androgen meds like spironolactone but you have to get your blood tested and make sure you don't get pregnant. |
