Babysitter vaccination

Anonymous
Hi

We are have a phone interview with a potential babysitter that will hopefully lead to a trial day/night date. Is it unreasonable to ask whether she has been vaccinated? Im just not sure what the rules are but we have 2 immunocompromised people in our household and our son is not eligible for vaccination.

This is a standard and fine thing to ask

Standard and an important thing to ask.

If you have two immunocompromised people, you ask, but there's no way I'd be hiring a random date night sitter who has been around who knows how many people during the week.

But that’s why vaccines are so great! We don’t have to pry into others’ business anymore. If she is vaccinated, she can’t spread it. Done.

I'm a nanny who does date night/event care several times a week and have about 15 occasional care families. I'm vaccinated and AFAIK, have had yet to have Covid. It can work.

That’s not the point.

If you have immunocompromised people in the household, they’re vulnerable to *every* germ, not just covid. If I had two people like that in my household? The only person who would babysit would be one who was already in the household during the week, to limit total germ exposure.

Yes, definitely ask.

In today’s day + age, you must in order to protect your family.

Ask her and require her to wear a mask inside and your kids too, sanitize everyone's hands at door personally. No biggie, it's a new time. Most reasonable people are okay with mask wearing and if she's not then I would pass. Your family's health is most important

Ask and require a mask. And make clear she will have to show her vaccine card.
