New cars bought recently with no premium

If you bought a new car in the last two months and didn’t pay a premium for it due to a shortage of cars/chips, would you mind sharing?

I placed an order for a porsche and an audi within the last three months and did not pay a premium on either. In fact I got a few thousand off the porsche MSRP. How can they charge you more than sticker if you order - is that a thing?? Like, you go on the website, configure it, it spits out a price, and then the dealer says "well we're adding 3k to that" just because? Find a different dealer

OP here. I don’t plan to pay more than MSRP, but I’d like to pay the same % off MSRP they were offering a few months ago. I have seen a few places increase their internet sale price by a few thousand (but still less than MSRP.)

BMW @ Alexandria. Was looking pre-COVID, offering ~10% off MSRP. Didn’t pull the trigger, but just bought now was ~9.5% off.

I bought a very in demand Toyota for msrp last month. Doesn’t seem like a deal? I had to call/go to 6 dealers before I found:
1. The car I wanted (color, trim)
2. At msrp, versus dealers tacking on 500-4000 dollars over “due to the market.”

Even so I had to put down a (refundable) deposit, and had to wait 2 weeks for the car to be built and shipped.

In the meantime I did some test drives of other brands and dealers. Best deals I negotiated were on high trim models. But 9% off is not a deal if you don’t want that car, u know?

Anyone recommend a good local Toyota dealer? willing to drive 100 miles outside of DMV. looking for Highlander under MSRP.

Try Fitzgerald in Gaithersburg. I find their pricing to be straightforward and have bought several cars from them. Their prices used to be plainly visible on their website, but now you can unlock them by giving your contact info. I did that a few weeks ago when shopping for a RAV4 Hybrid XLE, which we got a bit below MSRP from them.
