newly pregnant and new to the area

Anonymous
Hi there- I am newly pregnant and have just moved to the area and Dr. Gaba was suggested to me. I have had lots of fertility issues in the past. I have never had a full-term pregnancy.

How does GW rate as compared to the other area hospitals?

GW has several advantages:
1. A top-level NICU, should your baby require one.
2. It's a brand new facility with huge Labor & Delivery rooms and all private recovery rooms
3. Very conveniently located
A downside is that it is a teaching hospital, so you will likely have residents and med students attending to you.

There is a a thread, just a few down, discussing some dr's at GWU. You can also search the forum (including the old forum) and there is a lot of info about delivering at GWU and their practice there. You don't mention whether you need a fertility specialist and/or you would be considered high risk, but there have been threads on those issues as well. You have many options regarding hospitals, both teaching (GWU and Georgetown) and not (Sibley).

Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to the area. Good luck!

Something to think about regarding teaching hospitals--my SIL who is a nurse practioner would only consider delivering in a teaching hospital since she thinks they are the most cutting edge in terms of technology. Yes you have people coming around on rounds but really it isn't a big deal. I myself had a csection and had folks with rounds and it was no bother to me at all, since I was grateful for the healthy delivery and happy that so many people were looking me over to make sure I was okay. Congrats!

I loved GW L&D. DH is a MD there but not in that area and all the nurses he works with had their babies there. I was there twice and both experiences were very good.
