List boarding school on LinkedIn?

Anonymous
I would NEVER put my boarding school on my resume. I'm in an alumni group that's visible on LinkedIn. However, I recently noticed that I could list my high school as part of my "Education" and the school has a LinkedIn page, not just a group, people can be connected with. Alums are searchable that way. Is this gauche to add? Would you add?

I'm not sure about LinkedIn, but all of the people I know who talk about their boarding schools are complete douches.

I'm very turned off when people include HS information in their CVs but I work for a DC nonprofit. If you want a job on Wall Street or in consulting, it might help. They want to hire people who know people, because they think you might be able to build business.

I put all my schools on LinkedIn, including my two very non prestigious public elementary schools and my private high school. The point is to connect with people. I do not put those on my résumé.

I love it when people do this. It’s convenient when they let me know EXACTLY who I’m dealing with! Lol!

I'd split the difference. Don't list it on your "education" section because that's gauche. Do join the page/group/whatever because LinkedIn is at least partially a social networking site and maybe you'll reconnect with an old friend.

I don't think there's much of anything that's too gauche for Facebook Jr, LinkedIn

DP. Why? Is it because it's a sign of privilege?

PP is hilarious. People who are from private schools all largely see it as a positive, people who aren’t won’t notice, and the few who think it is gauche probably aren’t in leadership.

I went to a local prep school.

Resume, no. Too much other stuff.

LinkedIn, yes. It makes you searchable for connections. It's also just an accurate description if my life.

If someone has some sort of issue with it, their loss.

Because it's not earned. College admissions, internships, those can be gamed but at least an employer can assume there is some merit involved. But a boarding school? That doesn't tell me anything about what a candidate has achieved, and honestly it makes the subsequent accomplishments seem less impressive.

Leadership doesn't make hiring decisions, though.

This.

No, don't be that person. Your high school does not matter.

Op, why don't you also add your middle school teacher's recommendation and rank in that class? How about the best art you had in elementary school?

Gosh, it is upto you to make your LinkedIn professional or useless. I think you got the answer.
