16 year old - volunteer job fell through, any recommendations?

Anonymous
Our son had a volunteer job (at a bilingual camp) lined up for July that he was looking forward to, but it fell through (covid restrictions). He and I have both been looking online for other options and it seems that many are not accepting in person volunteers at this time, and the drop in type opportunities that we could find are now full for the next month.
Any recommendations for an organization that might be looking for teenage volunteers on a last minute temporary or drop in basis? Has your child had a great experience somewhere? Or suggestions where to look?
He has some experience as a math tutor and swim coach, some Spanish, he’s open to any recommendations.
Thanks!

If he is on a summer swim team or you belong to the pool he can probably volunteer at the pool/team.

Is there a reason he needs to volunteer and can't get a job someplace?

How about using your local list.serve to put it out there that your DS would be interested in helping a youngster developing a sports skills of interest say if he plays basketball, soccer, baseball, tennis, lacrosse etc. It could be doing basic drills or working on specific skills in a sport to help bolster a kid's skills before fall practices start.

Also, you could see if there is any interest in volunteering with your local Special Olympics if they are having onsite sports trainings.

He could also post an ad in your local list.serve for a short term job such as walking a dog, mowing grass, watering plants etc. while a neighbor is on vacation.

If he needs or wants the service angle of it, I would have him contact local office on aging or again use the list.serve to see if there are any seniors who might need some volunteer help with their yard, cleaning out a basement or attic etc. A couple of strong arms might really be appreciated.

Not sure if it's open right now or not, but my teens sometimes volunteer at Wider Circle - again, not sure re: covid but in the old days, once you were trained, you could pretty much help anytime you were free as long as you signed up. It's in Silver Spring.

I was going to say exactly this. They are taking volunteers this summer. There are age restrictions but a parent can attend with kids under their age limit.

Montgomery County Volunteer Center has an online database for various opportunities.

Tons of vacation area places are desperate for help if you are near any of those. Plus fast food places, convenience stores, I'm seeing help wanted signs everywhere.

Does he swim? If so, he should get his lifeguard certification and get a job.
