Aftercare is more than preschool and daycare!

Anonymous
I just looked up the rates for aftercare for my kindergartener at her new school and it’s more than we paid for full time private preschool and full time infant care at a large center: $550 per week which amounts to $2200 a month for basically 10 hours of care. Is this common/typical? I am really surprised at how expensive this is.

Are you sure it’s not $550 a month??

No, that sounds too high. I'd expect it to cost a lot less, because fewer hours in care.

That's $110 a day, which is beyond private sitter money. It may be monthly?

Ah ok I just went back and reread. You’re right, it’s monthly. Phew. Both DH and I about fell off our chairs over that cost. Thanks, guess that third cup of coffee is warranted.
