How will schools quarantine kids in the fall?

Anonymous
Right now APS is saying that school will be full in person in the fall. What happens if someone in the class gets COVID and the unvaccinated kids have to quarantine due to exposure. Will the teachers for those classes become concurrent? I am confused how quarantines are going to work?

If it’s anything like FCCPS at the end of the year, most students will be sent home and then cleared to return in a day. I don’t understand how so many are cleared so quickly but I think the HD determined they no longer have to stay home since they were earring masks, or something like that.

So my follow up question to yours - will my vaccinated kids have to wear masks all day because of this? We keep hearing how there are close to zero cases and that we have a high rate of vaccination at the high schools.

As long as Duran is in charge, I believe masks will be mandatory.. esp since some teachers are already citing they are "scared for their lives" of being in classrooms with unmasked children.

We are in FCCPS. I bet Noonan does the same. He likes to tweet about how our percent positivity is zero, so that is my one small hope that we can actually follow science and drop them next year at least at the high school. I have not heard teachers there claiming that they are scared.

This was (possibly a rumor) from APS elementary schools calling families to see if they were returning, then mentioning teachers were scared to teach kids without masks.

Our school that was in-person all year, and by the end of the year, if a student tested positive they had the kids in the seats immediately around the positive student quarantine at home and do concurrent learning via video from the classroom. The other students remained in class.

^ Meant to add this was per the health department. They were the ones who controlled the decisions about who stayed home and who went to class, not the school.

I hope they dont have a mask police for kids that depends on vaccination...very discriminatory , does anyone know?

Discriminatory? What?! If your kid doesn’t have a vaccine, he or she better mask up while indoors.

No one has mentioned this but I don’t have any problem showing proof of vaccination so my older kids don’t have to wear masks. Although I doubt the schools will ask. My guess it will be everyone wears a mask or no one is mandated to wear one. My youngest can’t be vaccinated yet. I don’t think masks are necessary considering our numbers right now, but I’m also okay if masks are required for those unvaccinated. My 9 yo son wears one in stores right now for that reason anyway.

I’m an APS elementary teacher. I’d like masks at elementary until that age is able to be vaccinated. Same for middle school since 6th graders are 11. If that is authorized in September I would be okay going mask free in, say, November. I do think high school can be mask free since they are all eligible. I am also a parent of one elem and 2 HS kids in APS.

So does that mean that teachers will have to continue to be concurrent for kids that have to quarantine at home. I thought the concurrent teaching was over.

How is that discrimination?
If your kid is eligible for a vaccination, and you choose to not get them vaccinated, YOU would be the one who is making them have to wear a mask, not the school system. That’s on you. If your kid feels left out or embarrassed, all your fault.

The rest of us are hoping they do have mask police, so your kid doesn’t infect everyone.
