Kids Don't Smoke Cigarettes Anymore

I had a conversation with my niece earlier and she was telling me about her school. I made a joke about boys sneaking off to smoke cigarettes and she made a face. She then told me that she knows one person who smokes cigarettes because it is "disgusting". This is a stark difference from when I was in high school (in the early 2000s) and everyone who wanted to be cool tried smoking. I've noticed more broadly that there is much more stigma against cigarettes. I guess the photos of black lungs and constant anti-smoking ads worked.
Also, I am very happy about this as its gross and unhealthy. |

Unfortunately VAPING replaced cigarettes and it is even more damaging to the lungs.

I'm concerned about what all this weed is doing to their young brains. The adults I know who smoke pot regularly can't remember things from one day to the next. It's disconcerting. |

| Kids smoke pot NOW? Where did you all go to high school? And when? Went to high school in the late '80s early '90s and everybody smoked weed then and sometimes used harder drugs. And we were a sleepy little suburb. I'm pretty sure weed is nothing new |

Huh? I was in high school and graduated in 04. No one I knew smoked. I’ve also never met anyone my age who smoked. They’re all older or foreigners that smoke
Kids now smoke a lot of pot and vape, but they smoked a lot of pot in high school when I went too |

They still smoke, just via a vape instead. Many do it during class as well, and the vapes are so well hidden (a pen, a thumb drive, a hoodie string), the teachers don't even know it is happening.
Sometimes nicotine, sometimes THC. But most of them do this |

I was in HS and the same time and the only people who really smoked pot were the confirmed potheads. You had to have a dealer and everything so it wasn’t something most kids were doing. Plus the smell was so obvious. I think it’s a lot easier to get now (like beer) and a lot more socially acceptable (like beer). Wine coolers were the thing at my HS….Bartles and James! |

| My DD liked cigarettes, vaping AND weed in high school. Really, anything that would annoy/upset her parents was fair game. She outgrew all of it by the end of college. |

| Teen smoking rates have been dropping for decades. I graduated in 2005 and don't know a single person that smoked in HS. |
