what do you think is the appropriate age is for wearing a 2-piece bathing suit?

I'm a pretty modest person and I'm old-fashioned in this regard. My 10 year old is lobbying hard for her first two-piece. Opinions?

My DD was in baby bikinis from her first summer. She has always worn bikinis, she is now 18. I never thought twice about them. When she was small the ruffles were super cute. And as a teen she always made appropriate choices. I should say that I also have only worn bikinis and I am 48. It isn’t 1950 OP, live a little

Don’t let this be the hill you die on. Trust me.

I don’t think there is any particular age. You can get pretty modest two pieces. My 2 yr old wears bottoms and either a t-shirt rash guard or tankini type top because she’s recently potty trained and it’s much easier for going to the bathroom.

You never thought of your daughter possibly being prematurely sexualized by wearing a bikini at a young age?

You need to choose new places to hang out with your kid.

No, I didn’t.

Two-piece =/= bikini. My dd has only ever worn two-pieces, but it’s mostly shortsleeved rash guards with bikini bottoms. There are modest tanks available if she want a two piece.

I hate seeing bikini tops on little girls with no breasts. My girls worn just the bikini bottoms until around six or seven. Definitely by ten. Girls are grown now and no worse for my choices of bathing costumes for them.

+1. Actually covering non-existent breasts in a young child is what is sexualizing.

Maybe you all can agree on a more athletic looking bikini. We really like some of the Abercrombie Kids swimsuits.

Mine wears two-pieces at age 3, but it’s those Rufflebutts ones with a long-sleeved rash guard and skirt. Basically an Amish outfit lol. But I do it to protect her skin from the sun

Op, I agree with you, but would focus more on the function of the clothing. Like I would never let a 10 year old wear heels because they are not practical. For a 10 year old, a bathing suit has one function, and that is to allow her to swim and play comfortably in the water and protect her from the sun. There are 2 piece bathing suits that can do those things quite well, like tankinis or fuller cut two pieces. Let her choose one of those. When she is older and wants to wear a different style for fashion or attention, that is fine.

Oh, you asked for an age. Maybe 15 or 16? Depends on the girl and how much input you have into her clothes the rest of the time. I think my mom gave up when I was about 15.

If this is where your mind goes to, you are going to have lots of things to work out, op.
