Beauty and Fashion
| I guess maybe because I was born in 1980, but I used to love the way my mom's friends would dress (the classic "country club" look). My mother-in-law in her late 50's still dresses this way and I think it's cute. I wish it was in style! Hanging head in shame. |
| Was it the jogging skirt thread that got you flashing back? |
| haha I think it was! |
| I think it did . . . I noticed a bunch of the teens from my church wearing polos and button up shirts with the collars up a few years back. I was like "What year is it???" |
| It's gone?????? I grew up with it, went to schools where that's what everyone wore and still see it among my friends. At my child's school, that's all they wore, too. Still lots of stores that only carry that stuff in the DC area. |
| If you like it wear it!!! |
|
Oh no ... please no ... I HATE that look. I don't think you can even call it a 'style' because there is no style!
Oh well, I guess it just doesn't work for me. |
| I think its cute if you have the right figure (go shop at Brooks Brothers). But, if you don't have the right figure, you end up looking square, mannish and fat. |

If you grew up WEARING that fashion, you don't want it back. I can't go back to Limited Express sweaters, socks over pants with high top sneakers, big hair, shoulder pads, and Jordache jeans.

| I know that rule, but I am 29. When 80's prep was happening I was in sweatpants and hyper-color t shirts. |
| For some, this is really a lifestyle and not a fashion trend. True prep style is classic and transcends time. Look at Ralph Lauren.... |

ITA. I'm amazed that my 10 year old daughter has virtually the same monogrammed Bermuda bag I did when I was in 6th grade! While I'm not wedded to the country club Lilly look everyday, it tends to be my default look. I also grew up with it, went to schools where it was the norm, and see lots of my kids' friends dressing that way. I confess, I still get excited when I see rows and rows of grosgrain ribbon at the craft store! Pappagallos anyone? |
| As one of the 80s kids who wore a lot of black and torn up t-shirts and spent a lot of time rebelling/being made fun of by the preps (I was Ally Sheedy to your Molly Ringwald), please for love of all that's holy don't bring this back. I'll just have to start making my hair look like Robert Smith's again. |

You just decribed my husband's weekend attire. He's a child of the 80s. I wore some of his "vintage" Polo Oxfords while pregnant. He was horrified I was using his classic shirts as my maternity clothes. I thought they were cute. |
| Ahhhhh....it takes me back . . . penny loafers, chino pants, ribbon belts, izod shirts, madras, button-downs, cable crew-neck sweaters, hair ribbons and hair bands, green and pink. . And remember those purses with the wooden or tortoise shell handles where you could change the buttoned-on covers? And add-a-bead necklaces? And sweaters with the design around the neck (can't remember what they are called)? |
