I didn't purchase or plan out any "nursing friendly" outfits before baby, because I wasn't sure if I was going to breastfeed or what I would feel like wearing. I have plenty of beat up old button downs for nursing around the house in, but when company comes over or we leave the house I want to feel more put together.
What do you find is easiest/best? Wrap tops? Button ups? Dresses or tops? I don't like the skin tight nursing tank tops and think it's strange that these are so prolific. I also don't want to buy dowdy "nursing tops" if I can make real clothes work for me. It seems like a huge waste of money on things that aren't going to make me feel good. |
These are still somewhat frumpy, but don't scream "nursing top!" and I actually occasionally wore them post-nursing https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0859T8VPX/ref=twister_B07MMLYV1D?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Otherwise, layer loose blouse over a stretchy or v-neck tank that you can pop a boob out of. Or deep v-neck shirts. Look for nursing bras that look like bralettes. |
Honestly, I wear one of the skin-tight nursing tanks under my normal shirts. I lift the normal shirt up, the tank keeps my stomach covered, and I lift down the nursing flaps. Easy-peasy, and lets me back in my normal clothes! |
Yes, that is what I did also. Pretty easy and comfortable. |
Search, surplice tops and dresses. These are also easy to pop your boob out of. Advantage of a dress is that baby can't pull it up to expose your stomach while they are nursing. |
My favorite were spaghetti straps, and not specific “nursing friendly” tops or dresses. I found the zipper and cut out for your boob weird. Way less uncomfortable in public to just pull a strap down. |
Get some cheap Vneck tshirts from old navy, target, gap etc and just pull your boob out the neck. They will get stretched out but that works for me usually. I also look for v or scoop neck dresses for easy access. |
Yup same. I bought some of those boob cutout shirts and never used them. |
Yes, this for sure. |
Anything is a nursing top if you pull your boob out |
If this is at all your style I absolutely love these rompers. So comfortable, nice looking and easy to feed in. They also have a bunch of other dresses, jumpers etc that work well. Not going to lie I wore these rompers after I weaned

I never bought any nursing tops and I’ve had 4 kids. Things I’ve liked are deep v tshirts and sundresses with a little stretch (I pull my boob out of the v and nurse) and tank tops with a low neckline. Really the only tops I didn’t like were crew neck or high cut since I don’t like having to lift up my whole shirt to nurse. |
I like those open-side tees... I wear them with a nursing tank underneath.
I just couldn't get myself to wear anything from a brand like "latched" or "milk" or "boob"...sorry. |
I bought four Lilly Pulitzer “Essie” tanks on Poshmark. You can sometimes score basically new ones for about $20-25. They have buttons and are so easy to breastfeed in, but you can still wear a normal or nursing bra. And they look pretty.

I did this with my two late Fall babies, but for Summer? Hard pass on two layers all the time. I bought a few nursing tanks/dresses, some in great used condition. Well worth the money to not be sweating all the time and still be able to nurse comfortably. |
