Easy way to get around neighborhood

Anonymous
I'm trying to get my (12 and 8 year old) boys to bike to and from the neighborhood pool, almost a mile away. There are lots of ups and downs. They are okay with biking *to* the pool, but the ride back is very tiring after a long pool session. Is there an electric mode of transportation that they can use instead? What are some good options? An electric scooter? Hoverboard?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Kindly, those are old kids and a very short bike ride. Why not just walk the bike home? If it's doable on the way there, I'd cut the pool sessions slightly short until they build more stamina to make it home without complaining.

Agree- kids are tired and wet and I can see why they'd resist biking home. But a mile isn't very far on a bike.

Maybe pick them up once up in a while if the bikes fit in the car? Or give them money for ice cream on the way home?

Electric scooter? Do you want them to live for very long? Those things are pretty dangerous.

I assume they like the pool? Sounds like motivation enough. They can walk their bikes if they're tired, or stop and rest. Or they can learn to save a little energy for biking, cut their swim a tad shorter, and come home a little earlier on their bikes. But I for sure wouldn't solve this problem for them.

If I had to guess, they're happy to bike to the pool because then they can go to the pool, which they love, without waiting on anyone else (you). And unhappy to bike home because... they can just call you and you'll come get them? If that's the dynamic, just start saying no. They'll figure it out. They're not going to pass out from exhaustion on the side of the road.

+1

And pack them a bottle of water and a snack. They might need some food to reinvigorate them.

They can walk. It’s not that far.

They can’t ride their bike home? Lots of people in my neighborhood have golf carts.

+2 It's not far. They can power through or walk it.

I walk this long to get bagels with my 6 and 2 year olds. Sure there is not tiring pool session in the middle but just cut your pool time a bit shorter and walk back. Or they could use big kid scooters if they really don't want to walk.
