Why is it still impossible to make a Virginia DMV appt?

DS would like to take the Learners test. We made an appointment for a few days ago, but had to cancel since he was running a fever. (Not yet fully vaccinated, COVID test was negative) I canceled the appointment and have been trying to rebook for the past few days. There is nothing until August at any of the NVa DMV's or elsewhere in the state. Nothing in June or July anywhere. I've booked an appt for August, but would really like to get this done before then.

I thought I read that VA was opening up more slots? Any tips to grab a slot?

Yup. They need to recall/retrain the 70% of the DMV staff who has been “working” from home. It is not going to get better until people start really getting upset.

It's ridiculous. From advice here, I kept checking, found an earlier appointment time but also kept DS's original appointment in case he failed his learners permit test. Since he passed, I'll cancel his July appointment. And DMV, still the unfriendliest "customer service" ever.

I did this for DD and the VA DMV canceled my second appointment.

Looking now…just found a spot in Sterling, VA July 29 and 30th. And August looks wide open for the Sterling location. This the new Sterling location. Ps. I picked Sterling because it’s closest to me.

+1. I think there should be an option for walk ups, but I like the appt system much better. Also, I found the customer service at an Arlington location to be very friendly and knowledgable.

And idea what time of day they post the new appointment slots? I know the 90 days out appts are posted at COB, but is there a rhym or reasons for when the cancellations are released?

I'm also checking and there are NO appta anywhere within 2 hours of NVa for June or July currently. There are some slots in Clinton, VA if you don't mind driving 7 hours round trip.

This is ridiculous! Why does the DMV get to do this?

Did you use the same email/phone number? How can they cancel just based on a name?
