Rec a fun DC restaurant for small celebration

Anonymous
There will be about 8 of us celebrating a friend's upcoming wedding. Not a bachelorette party - it's her 2nd and we're all in our mid thirties. Back in the day, our friend loved the lounge scene. I'd like to find a chic restaurant or bar that's a bit hip, but where we won't feel silly. Something a little different. Co Co Sala was thrown out as a suggestion. I've never been there. Any other suggestions?

Maybe Zaytinya or Jaleo for tapas if you are looking in the downtown area.

I think Poste at the Hotel Monaco is underrated.

I love Cafe Saint-Ex, too.

My girlfriends and I just went to Bistro la Bonne on U Street for a birthday night and it was fabulous. Then you can go out on U Street after dinner.... plenty of bars and clubs. We went to the Red Room bar at Black Cat afterwards even though I'm sure no one mistook us for hipsters.

OP here - thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone here been to The Gibson? Is it more date-ish!

Just went to Sei Restaurant Saturday in Penn Quarter and it was great.

Gibson is "meh". It's a bar. Sei food is hit or miss, but decor is great. Consider Againn, the newish gastropub in Penn Quarter is both hip and grown up. Nice private room. Eatonville on 14th is ecclectic-Southern and definitely different. Cork on 14th has good small plate food and wine, more hip than Proof.

Ditto on Poste. Outdoor tables that aren't on a sidewalk are a plus!

Have fun
