Please share your experience with delivery at either hospital. Details about their Mother-Baby Recovery Rooms would be very helpful
Considering these OBs: Healthcare For Women Physicians (VHC) Nova group for women (Inova Fairfax) Thank you!! |

I delivered twice at Fairfax and had positive experiences. Rooms were comfortable and spacious. There's a fold down couch big enough for spouse to sleep, as well as a rocking chair. We had plenty of room even when my parents were visiting (pre-Covid) and they were recently renovated, so everything looks new. Hospital provided pretty much everything we needed. Food was good. Nurses were helpful and supportive. They sent me home with a goody bag full of post partum needs. Babies roomed in, but the nursery was available. Formula and pacifiers were provided without judgement.
I've heard good things about VHC too, so I don't think you can go wrong here. |
| I loved giving birth at VHC. The postpartum nurses were absolutely wonderful. And the whole place felt quiet and calm: vitals checks, etc, generally happened mid-morning only, and the staff really made an effort to allow Moms and babies to get rest at other times of day and night. My postpartum room was very spacious and comfortable, with a rocker and a couch for my partner to sleep on. I have heard that some of the other recovery rooms are smaller, though. As PP mentioned, people seem to have good things to say about both hospitals - you probably can't go too wrong. |
| I am pregnant with my third and absolutely love Healthcare for Women and VHC. With both my deliveries I felt like I was getting first class treatment by the nurses. I always had two nurses - they were super nice and made me feel comfortable, massaged me, advocated for me and even made sure my husband and my mom were comfortable (they got them blankets). Post partum nurses were excellent too and I still am grateful for them calming me down when I was having a breakdown - baby didn’t pass her hearing test and I was sick with worry and started crying. They explained that it was going to be ok and that it’s common, but also gave me hugs and sat down with me. I love that they have a newborn nursery (not sure if it’s still there with covid) so that I could get a break to sleep as well. Food was actually not that bad either. As for Healthcare for Women, the doctors are excellent and helped me get through two very difficult deliveries. It’s a smallish practice. You see your primary doctor at the first half of your pregnancy but then rotate between the rest of the doctors afterwards. It’s great cuz you get to know everyone in the practice. |
| I did not like NOVA group for women at all. A couple of excellent providers and a lot of disorganized “meh” |
| INOVA Fairfax recovery rooms were fine, DH reports the couch was fine, I liked most of the nurses, I would just caution that there was huge variance in the two lactation consultants I saw— the first one spent five minutes with me and then attached me to a pump at the highest setting so I had a cracked nipple day one, the second one actually helped me figure out ways to hold my baby so she could latch for longer, how to make it more ergonomic, etc. |
| I gave birth at both locations. 2014. 2016. I had a much better experience at vhc by far. The postpartum care was Miles better and the nursing staff really cared about me. Inova had fancy rooms and a newer building but the care was not as good. Both my births were somewhat traumatic and I had a lot of tearing. VHC was so much better. |
| Not impressed by VHC at all but loved my midwife (no longer delivers there). Staff wasn’t personable at all. RN in L&D had no sense of humor and actually answered her own phone while putting in my IV (didn’t change gloves or anything.) She kept touching my newborn without gloves on. And not a big deal but food was def subpar and the building is old and outdated. No nursery due to covid. |
| Inova Fairfax is good. VHC is better. |
