| I'm not even sure if this is possible. I live in the city, I don't have a car, I walk, uber, metro or do a car share whenever I need to go anywhere. I'd like to have some mini adventures over the summer. Instead of renting a car every other week or so on, is there a cheaper/most cost efficient way to rent a car for the whole summer? Is that even an option? Or is my only option to rent as I need it and just swallow the cost? |

Buy a good quality used car that will hold its resell value. Sell it at the end of the summer. Beware, though, that you need to factor in costs for parking, insurance, and title fees, and (depending on where you live) property insurance to figure out if this is really cost-effective.
Or, advertise on Craiglist or Next-door that you want to rent someone's car for the summer. You will still have to provide your own insurance--or at least get added to their policy--but you will not have to deal with title and property taxes. |

There are companies that will do short-term leases, like 3 month leases. There are also companies that will do monthly rentals which are cheaper by the day than weekend or weekly rentals (but obviously more expensive long term).
Depending on what you want to do, you should compare monthly rentals vs 3 month leases. |

I live in CA where we have Turo (not sure if other areas have this.)
Basically you can rent out a vehicle from a private party for a cheaper fee than if you had paid for a rental car service. Or check Yelp to see if your area has places that you can rent out for months at a time. They could be older or salvaged vehicles - but as long as they are in drivable condition then that is the most important thing. Good luck‼️ |
| Zip car - sounds like Turbo but in the DMV |
