American dream is dead: data clear shows how younger generations after Boomers have it worse

Anonymous
Yeah, if those lazy, entitled Millennials would just stop playing video games, eating avocado toasts, and study harder, maybe they'd have their slice of the American dream. Ha! No wonder Millennials and younger generations are shifting way further to the left and are big supporters of higher taxes to tackle the wealth distribution problem. Boomers had it easier than Gen X, and way easier than Millennials. Remember Millennials, shut your pie hole and eat the raw deal you've been promised regarding the American dream. As long as Boomers get to feed from the trough until their sides split, all is good.

It's not even HIGHER taxes. We already pay enough taxes. We just have a failed system.

Meant to post this one, but the first one is ok too

Well, that's quite a conundrum. Would you say there is *more* or *less* of the following available to boomers vs millennials:

- Government spending for social programs
- Student loans for college eductaion
- Equality before the law based on race, sex, etc.
- Social acceptance for alternative lifestyles
- Efficient access to information
- Healthier foods and cleaner environment

In what way is the modern world worse than it was during the time of boomers that would cause millennials to not achieve as much.

It's not that they don't achieve necessarily. It's that they don't get paid as much for those achievements. College, housing, health insurance, etc. all cost way more than they did when boomers were younger.

Boomers paid higher taxes than we do now. But in exchange they had cheaper college and many other benefits. And as a result the economy boomed.

What happened is that taxes have shifted from the rich and corporations onto the middle class and that has led to stagnation for most of us while the rich keep accelerating away to even more riches. What happened is that the American worker has become more and more productive and profitable for corporations while their wages have stalled out relative to the ever increasing cost of living.
It was not like this decades ago when the boomers had their heyday, bought houses and started businesses without being saddled with mountains of debt. It's gotten a lot harder since then.

It's easy. Have a world war where the US is the only unrubbled, developed country. Then you'll have it great while the industrial might of the US restores the world again.

For the sake of this thought experiment, assume you're not white. Now, which date in U.S. history would you go back to?

The American dream is fine.

This comes down to corporate welfare and tax loopholes for businesses and the wealthy.

Blame the elected officials on both sides of the aisle who created the system starting in the 1970s—noting the Dems played a role, too.

Businesses and wealthy individuals can’t be allowed to hold money offshore without paying taxes. You want to do business here or live here? Great! Pay up.

A more competitive world showed up. It gives us more markets but more rivals. The rich kill it bc they have a globe to sell to. Those without the skills get crushed because there are 7. something billion people lined up to fight for their share.

It wasn’t some conspiracy. It’s not a generation thing. It’s the reality of 2021.

Robert Reich has lots of YouTube videos and other commentary explaining what’s what.

I like the one where he draws cartoons and connects the dots to breaking down the unions, changing the tax structure, etc.

He should go to Disney and ride “it’s a small world...”

Everything should be seen through the prism of global issues now.
