DC License Renewal

Hello,

I cannot get a date on DC's DMV website for an appointment to renew my license. I have the old license that expired in April and need to go in for this new type of license. Has anyone had any luck getting an appointment. No appointments online and no appointments on 311.

There is usually a new traunch released every Tuesday...try tomorrow.

They released new appointments at 3 pm. It might take a few weeks of trying before you get an available spot.

it took me a long time to get an appointment, but they do pop up.

Look at all locations that offer renewal service not just the closest one. And check on and off after the Tuesday 3 pm release of appointments as there is some movement throughout the next few hours. Finally read the documentation requirements for the REALID very closely so you don’t get rejected.

OP I am in the same boat. Thank you to PPs for the tips about Tuesdays and 3pm. Though I do want to note that I have been looking daily for weeks, at all locations, and searching all the way to September, and I’ve only ever seen one appointment available, and it was gone by the time I clicked on it. I just don’t understand.

I have gone all the way to January 2022 with no appointments available. I hope this changes after Dc government opens back up in July.

You have to check on Tuesdays at 3:00. They open up slots for the next few weeks. They do this every week.

Something is going on at DMV.

I listened in on an ANC meeting on Zoom. The mayor's representative was there, he said to email him if you needed an appointment. So I did. He copied me in on an email to the Director of DMV! And presto, I had an appointment. Which I'm grateful for, but it seems like no way to run a railroad.

It's a shit show. We couldn't renew a car before June 1st, b/c we couldn't get an appointment for the real id license - for a year and a half. We gave up and just got licenses and registrations in Maryland (where we have a rental a couple minutes across the state border). We insure both houses and cars with the same policy.

This is exactly how DC works and has always worked. You have now just received a glimpse of what it’s like being a developer, construction company, hotel operator or restauranteur.
