Is admissions lottery based? Has anybody NOT gotten in due to the essays they ask you to write.
Do they kick out kids that are not performing well or causing a lot of disturbance to their other classmates? Thank in advance! |
| Lottery based. Essays are really a way for children to formulate THEIR reasons for wanting to attend a school with such academic focus. A normal disciplinary process is followed to give children who cause disturbance chances to rethink their choices or hit the road. |
| thanks! |

Read the audit report. Extraordinary turnover of teachers, and obviously a struggle to be open-access but to have such a challenging curriculum when so many of the age-eligible are unprepared by years of practice for it. There are such things as impossible business and education plans. ie. It may be impossible for Washington Latin to do, under the rules and with the DC allowance, what it wishes to.

| Wow, 24 new teachers! Nota bene, union-haters. |
| One thing to remember about Latin, is they are adding a grade level a year. So new teachers are needed for the rising grade, increasing the school size. |
PLUS, if they don't like a teacher? Then that teacher doesn't get to return. Unfortunately DCPS doesn't have that kind of flexibility. If they don't like a teacher there's pretty much nothing they can do about it. |
| We LOVE our WL teachers. They are simply the best. And the new hires have been rock solid. |
| The teachers at Latin are very loveable, but they are also very inexperienced. Someday, they might be the best, right now they are bright young people with lots of promise. |
