| I'm seeing that studies have shown a link between celiac and anxiety, moodiness etc in toddlers but does anyone have anecdotal evidence? I'm not a woo person at all but willing to explore anything at this point. |
| Well yes, but that's because my child had celiac, so gluten was making him sick and elimininating gluten made him feel much better. |
| It wouldn’t be the first thing I jump to, tbh. I would start with super processed foods if you haven’t already. Also, I think the biggest thing is making sure they are fully hydrated. It sounds simple but my easy going children are monsters when they are not well hydrated with water. My pediatrician actually told me something like more than half of children are chronically dehydrated? Never looked up the stats on that but it was enough to make me aware of it and maybe that might help you? |
| My friend has celiac and I have to tell you, gluten free is a giant, giant pain. I am extremely careful making food for her. I wouldn't go down that road without talking to a doctor first. |
Why be rude? |
| We limit breads and pastas and crakers. Not because of gluten but because of constipation. Mood always better when the poops ate smooth and easy and not backed up. |
| No, no difference at all. |
| Be careful - gluten is actually not a bad source of carbs for people without celiac or sensitivity to gluten. Rice has arsenic so you don't want to switch to a super rice-heavy diet. |
| No. Cut sugar and snacking. Not gluten unless there is a medical necessity. |
| Follow your gut. Dairy made my DD very cranky as a kid even though there was no physiological evidence or allergy. You know your kid best. |
| Sleep. In my house a cranky kid is always tired. |
Do you...understand the difference between studies and anecdotal evidence? |
| A friend of my son—Figured out that gluten gave her migraines. She doesn’t have celiac but gluten=migraine…you can imagine a toddler with a migraine…she’s a sweet kid when she doesn’t eat gluten! |
| I would first focus on fiber, sugar, water and protein issues - very few people actually have celiacs |
|
My kid seemed more prone to tantrums with the sugary yogurts. He outgrew it by around 4.5 but my instinct was there was not enough fiber to even out the sugar hit he was getting.
I think most kids naturally avoid foods that make them sick. I would focus on enough sleep and try to get protein in them. I swear everyone’s mood in our house seems to improve after salmon, which luckily my kids will eat. |
