College ID camps

Went to an college ID camp and the coach greeted the girls then went inside then came back out at the end and said goodbye. There were over 100 girls there and clearly no evaluation was done of the players at all. Are all of them just fundraisers or do some schools actually use ID camps for recruiting?

From the ridiculous amount of emails my, still Sophomore, kid receives I would say fundraisers!

I will not argue its a money producing event for college coaches and programs. What I will tell you is I have seen high school athletes who would of not of been seen get a chance. Three years ago a family friend that had a player that played on the 2nd division lower team of a large club attend several id camps from VA-PA. Three offers later 1 being a D-1 with a partial scholarship. So its possible.

If you’re kid is not a current junior (and I suspect there were no seniors there this late in the recruiting cycle), D1 coaches can’t talk to you. They all say there may be evaluations, but this is a grey area. Younger kids may have been noticed, but they most likely won’t know until 6/15 of their rising junior year. My DC went to some camps freshman and sophomore years and never received feedback. Come 6/15, the kid got calls from many of those camps.

You have to be Olivia Moultrie for coaches to take notice. DMV has no OMs. Dream dream dream.

OMG. YES.

What mailing list am I on??? This started in 8th grade for my older son and now that he is a Freshmen, it's even more insane. Some try hard to make it look like a 'personal' invitation.

It's SUCH a business.

For 10th grade It's great experience for the player to play with coaches watching and against all levels. Valuable for a parent to see how the player responds to other players and coaches normally play with.
For 11th gr it gets more competitive and can matter.

Correction: They normally don't play with.

How true is that if you receive the ID invitations by mail and personally addressed it means the coach really has interest on seeing kid at the camp?

Not necessarily, because many coaches have mailing lists with players' names, but if the message mentions that the coach saw your kid play in a particular showcase or in a particular game, then it is a sign that this is not a simply mass mailing to fill in their camp.

Does youth soccer association provide our emails or something???

I get a TON of emails about ID camps and invites (no, not personal--though some drafted to look that way) and my kid isn't even playing on a first team.

DS invited to a D-1 camp this summer. States only 50 invitations of the 50 8 are goal keepers. Cost is $150.00 for two days. First for him but it sounds interesting.

It isn't directed to yourkid. Look at the bottom of the email. Itgives you a choice to opt out. Your kid is on a giant email list going out to thousands of kids. You can make the emails very personalized but they are just a mass mailing.

All you are doing is help fund underfunded athletic departments buy balls, winter gear etc.

Sure some kids might get recognized but it is a revenue generator for the team.
