Considering Moving to Westmoreland Hills - Advice on Neighboorhood and Westbrook

I am a native Washingtonian and considering moving to Westmoreland Hills. This is a BIG move for me as I grew up in Georgetown and went to school locally. Can someone please tell me about the Westmoreland Hills neighborhood (pros and cons) and also the Westbrook ES and the rest of the school cluster (pros and cons)?

I grew up across Mass Ave and now live adjacent to W Hills. Nice neighborhood - very wealthy. The tennis courts and playgrounds are great - we used to go all the time when kids were younger. Easy access to the Crescent trail. I don't think many people in the neighborhood use the public schools although maybe that's changed. Everyone i knew in that neighborhood went to private schools.

Westbrook feeds to Westland and BCC. There is lots on this board about BCC so do a search. I have friends with kids at Westbrook now and they are very happy with it.

Westbrook is a fine school but very overcrowded (as all MoCoo elementary schools are these days). Supposedly getting an addition which will alleviate the crowding, but that isn't scheduled to be done until around 2013 or so.

Westbrook is less over crowed than other close in MoCo elementary schools. Seems like a lot more families in Westmoreland Hills are using the public schools than in the past. One of the best aspects of the neighborhood for us is its proximity to DC. We can take advantage of the MoCo schools but still be close to G'town, Kennedy Center, etc. Also, if we decide to go private in the future, we are close to many good privates.

We are also considering moving to Westmoreland Hills. Can anyone comment on Westbrook with regard to current class sizes and when the addition is scheduled to take place?? Thanks

I believe the addition is scheduled for Jan 2012 and supposed to be completed by Fall 2013.

There have been some strange parental turf wars at Westbrook (some of which have been discussed on this board). Overcrowding is probably the biggest issue (not uncommon these days everywhere). You also have to decide if the Westland/BCC track is for you.
