I am a teacher new to the high schools. I have never wasted time, but I am tempted to basically call it quits by the end this week in terms of teaching and assessment. Students have started not joining zoom, there no comments in chat. It is basically just a radio show where I pretend students are responding in chat. I was thinking just to jump to the last exam by the end of this week and then just use the last three days of classes for review, retakes, late submissions, and any activities we may have skipped during the school year. Basically, a lot of optional stuff. I don't want to assign more due to all the missing work needed to be turned in.
I was advised that even in normal years, after seniors leave more and more students basically just stop showing up, so staff end up to doing a lot of less important end of the year activities. That way grades don't drop so much.
Can some experience MCPS teacher enlighten me about what to do? Thanks for any advice.
