Restaurant recommendation - graduation dinner

Anonymous
Planning a post graduation dinner for DS and am looking for a restaurant recommendation. Haven't been out and about since pre-covid and am desperately in need of a "cool" DC place to go. Want my DS to feel like it''s a "scene" and vibrant, fin...but also want it to be special/fancy enough to make it a special event for the whole family.

Anyone cooler than me have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Is everyone vaccinated? That will make a difference—indoor vs outdoor seating options.

Everyone is fully vaccinated.

My daughter loved Spanish in high school (ended up minoring in Spanish in college), so for her graduation celebration she chose tapas. We went to La Tasca in Rockville. Unfortunately, it seems that COVID has closed down the chain. While it wasn't the in thing for teens, it was a fun, informal yet special meal and there was something for all tastes. I think there are other tapas restaurants in the area, if you want to try them out.

I’d say one of the restaurants in the U Street corridor

It's okay, that's the opposite of trendy anyway.

It’s a lovely and wonderful restaurant. But it’s not “cool.”

Cafe Milano?

Del Mar at the Wharf? I thought it was cool prepandemic. But I’m not cool myself so YMMV.
