| We just got a new mattress- Miralux Splendor. But I was doing some research after we just got it and found some info that freaked me out. It says that some mattresses made with foam are very toxic especially to young children but really to all. The Miralux has foam in it although it is a spring coil mattress. My baby is often in bed with us in the morning and sometimes in the bed for naps. Should I be worried? |

Worried, I don't know. But mattresses are required by law to be fire resistant. PBDE is a fire-retardant that has been banned, according to this article:
http://www.ewg.org/pbdefree You can find out from the manufacturer what chemicals are in your mattress. There are other toxins, such as formaldehyde in mattresses. Do a google search for more info. FWIW, I'm going to buy organic mattresses from now on, given what I've read about chemicals in mattresses. Your child is probably more at risk from carpeting and older (pre-2005) furniture with foam in it. |
| You can get an organic cotton mattress pad to put some kind of safer barrier b/w you and the mattress. |
| Organic doesn't mean chemical free - just different chemicals. |
