Where to stay in San Diego with kids

Anonymous
We are planning to visit the zoo and Legoland and then will travel to LA.

I am looking for a family-friendly hotel preferably but not necessary close to the beach.

TIA

Spend a night at Legoland, the original hotel (not the castle), It’s cheesy but kids love it. I thought it was fun, too. Legoland is quite a drive from SD proper. When in SD we rented a condo on VRBO in a quieter part of Mission Beach. We rented a car and found driving around SD to be very easy. We did have to look for a condo that included parking, though, and the nicer place we got barely fit our mid sized sedan.

Legoland is up in Carlsbad and depending on traffic could be 30-60 minutes from the zoo. Which airport are you flying in and out of and what order are you doing things?

Thank you, everyone.

We are flying in on Saturday into SAN, going to the Zoo on Sunday, Then Legoland on Monday (for DS's Birthday). Maybe we should stay in the Legoland hotel on Monday, I have not thought about it.

For Sat and Sun nights I agree with the recommendation for something in the Mission Beach area. But heed the PP comments about looking for something with adequate parking and in a quieter part of MB. Catamaran is an option.

Definitely consider the Legoland hotel (as PP said, original, not castle) for Monday night. Kids have their own (small) room with bunk bed. Everything is themed, there's a pool, breakfast next morning is included, and it's North County so you're in the right place to start the drive to LA. When you arrive Monday morning you can park in hotel parking, and they'll text you when your room is ready.

Catamaran or Legoland. My kids loved both. Catamaran is right on the bay beach and close walk to the pacific.

We stayed at Legoland hotel with our 2 kids as did friends with their 3. The rooms were great, very kid friendly and QUIET. But the rest of the hotel is like a scream vacuum. I know it is partly because of hundreds of excited children but also there's got to be something up with the acoustics that doesn't help. You walk into the lobby and the volume is crazy.

Stay in La Jolla and spend a day at the beach.

Thanks again! I am now trying to figure out whether we’d be allowed to Legoland at all. The rules say that only vaxxed o-o-s visitors are permitted, but our kids are too young to be vaccinated. The customer's service is inaccessible, so I am scared to book the room.

What age is legoland good for? Are 10 and 8 yos too old?

OP here: they have different areas. 8 and 10 is the best age, imo

We liked the Catamaran the last time we were there. They had a luau which our kids enjoyed. It’s a little run down but nostalgic for me because we used to stay there when I was a kid and we would make the drive from Phoenix.
