| We are going to need to move in a year or so. Ideally, I'd love to live in Arlington because of proximity to DC, the airport, Pentagon City, etc. We currently live in DC and would like to find a place that is walkable to Metro shopping, restaurants, and schools. Silver Spring (near downtown) seems so much further away, but we could get a much larger house with a nice yard for a lot less money than Arlington. Can anyone who has gone through this weigh in? |
| You will get more for your money in SS than Arlington, however the public schools in Arlington are better, if that is a consideration. What is your commute like? If you are on the red line then SS would be a good option. If orange or blue then Arlington. |
| stay in arlington |
MY DH and I had the same situation a few months back.. We decided to live in Arlington near Clarendon/Courthouse and couldn't be happier. We are in a smaller house with pretty much no yard, but with everything right here within walking distance, it's not a big deal at all. And personally I like that there is less house to clean.. but that's just me if you are someone who likes to be closer to everything, Arlington is worth a bit of a downgrade in expectations as there is much more in return. if you like your space, SS

| I lived in Arlington and we moved to MD for my husband's job. I miss Arlington, but we were able to get more house for our money. What are your other priorities? |
| SSer here, not from DC. Montgomery County school's are pretty good. |
| What are the neighborhoods in Silver Spring that are close enough to wald to downtown, Whole Foods and Metro? |
Look in the 20910 zip code. |
Agreed. East Silver Spring, South Silver Spring, Woodside, etc -- all in 20910, all very walkable. |
We are near Forest Glen Metro - more of a hike to downtown SS (not as walkable to downtown) but still some charming neighborhoods, and we can still walk to a red line metro. Tons of parks/playgrounds, running trails too. |
