I am driving through the New York area today to go to New Haven.
Can we view the Statue of Liberty anywhere from the road, to avoid driving into Manhattan or all of the traffic in general? Even just a stop over or a view from the car window is great. TIA. |
No and you can barely even see it from the Verranzo Bridge, which would be out of your way to take anyway. It’s much shorter than you think. |
On the New Jersey side, I think you can exit the Turnpike (signage for Liberty State Park, iirc) and drive down to the waterfront from which you can look across. On the NY side, unfortunately not because just where you might be able to see it you are being funneled into a tunnel. But it sounds like a stop at the NJ vantage point might be just the thing if you are continuing north and avoiding driving into Manhattan anyway. |
OP here.
We’re 20 minutes away from Lincoln Harbor Park in Weehawken. Hoping to do a drive-by and be able to see some of the city before hopping back on the highway! |
NOO. I missed this. You have to go much further south. The island is really much closer to NJ than NY so you can’t see it from that far north! |
Also, it's on an island and pretty far away - so even on highways where you can see it, it's a very far away view. Certainly not worth going out of your way. |
This. It’ll be a tiny dot in the distance. |
