So it's confirmed then that in a 220K+ county our elected officials are decided by Arl Dems steering. They are the king makers and it is all a pretense to pretend fairness. I'm so disgusted right now after reading this.

This is a caucus for the endorsement which is likely to win based on the strength of the dem sample ballot. It’s not over. |
The voters give them the power to do this. It’s hard left Arlington. Disgusting to many of us, but if a majority felt the same way the practice would stop. Many voters in Arlington like being told who to vote for. They don’t have to think- how liberating! |
Yes I'm sure the campaign to have Miranda win by write-in will go swimmingly. APE will try to have Miranda pull a Lisa Murkowski. Good luck with that. |
you don't have to vote for them. Political parties are free to choose candidates, this is how the Arlington democrats do it at the county level. Virginia republicans choose to do the same at the state level. If you don't like the choice, don't vote for them |
Op do you think all caucases are shams? |
NP: or just the ones where your candidate loses? |
Can’t she run as an independent? |
When she filed to run in the Dems caucus, she agreed that she wouldn't run (or even support or assist anyone running) against the Dem-endorsed candidate. Legally, sure she can run as an independent, but she'd be breaking the agreement that she made when she first decided to run. Not a big deal for some voters, but could be a big deal for others. |
So, I guess moral of the story is she should have waited and run as an independent? So, who can step up now and topple Kadera? Certainly not M. Webb on the R side. |
NP here. I think caucuses are a bad idea, period. The Dems need to get away from them, both locally and nationally.
Two, I think it is a bad call for a political party to get into these non-partisan races in this way. It is a waste of resources, for one thing, and in Arlington, it's a stupid litmus test. We are not going to have some hardcore right-winger elected to school board if there is no Dem-endorsed candidate. Three, that Blue Virginia post was just gross and really underscores that a lot of political strategists and pundits do not care about the real local issues. I have been a faithful Democratic voter and have given money to plenty of local and state-level Dems and this is making me rethink it. I'm not going to vote Republican but will think about sitting out or giving my money to other causes. |
Nobody on the R side. That’s why the Rs don’t run anyone. They can’t win in Arlington, duh! |
Yes, very much agree. The caucuses are also terrible because it prevents highly qualified candidates that are federal employees from running-- see Symone last year. Instead we got a 28 yo party activist looking to climb the ranks. This is exactly why we have the school board we do. No one wants to piss of the hand that feeds them (Arl Dems) and criticize County Board members and fellow school board members for not doing enough. Cristina and Priddy should have walked in demanding that the school board take a vote on Duran's return to school plan. It is an abdication of duty that the school board has not voted on issues. AND they are establishing an entirely new virtual school with its own principal and admin staff and didn't even vote on it!!!! I have little faith that Kadera is going to bring the accountability we desperately need to APS. |
Ahhh...i'm glad a 70 yo dude with no kids is exerting so much influence on the school board race. Arl Dems involvement in the process is not serving our kids and community well. I have been so disgusted by their grip on local politics in the past couple of years and the shitty candidate they turn out. I may be switching parties for local races. Please, dear god, let there be an independent to run for school board. |
1.) who wrote this article?
2.) can it be any more biased? Look I hate the caucus as much as the next person, but articles like this isn’t going to move the needle on the process. If you wanted Miranda to win, shoulda got more of your people (and Republicans) to vote. Sour grapes otherwise. |
