Pumping for two minutes after bf trick

I once read about a trick to pump for two minutes after you finish bf to build up a stash/pump some breast milk but can’t find it now anywhere. Can someone explain?

I’ve done it with each of my kids to get their weight up in the first few weeks. I simply nursed for 20 minutes on one side and then pumped for 10 minutes. The key was to pump right away. That meant handing the baby off to someone or putting them in the crib.

At first I got nothing. But then I kept doing it feeding after feeding. Every single time. By the next day, I was pumping 4-5 oz AFTER nursing for the 20 minutes. I stopped pumping because I wasn’t trying to get a stash and the baby’s weight increased. And it was a pain to do after every feeding.

If you want to build your stash, I would suggest trying it for at least 5 minutes after nursing in the morning. That was when my supply was always at its best. Do it several times in the morning and see what you get.

I never found this strategy physically possible. You need another person to hand off the baby to while you are pumping. And then you or the other person have to clean and manage pump and bottle parts. With a newborn, the window of attention may be just 10 minutes after nursing anyway. So unless you have a ton of support, you might not want to rely on it. That being said, agree that the morning is the best time to try.

No this sucks (no pun intended). Try using a hakaa first to build up supply
