Best toddler friendly beach/accommodations?

Anonymous
We're looking to get away for a week or so with two toddlers, our only criteria is we need to stay somewhere that has at least one separate bedroom so they can sleep separate from us, and we'd like to be walkable to a beach and some restaurants with seafood. If we had an ocean (or even bay) view, even better. I know we're late and lots of places are booked up, but I don't even know where to start looking. We're in close-in MoCo and willing to drive up to 3 hours. Where should we go, where should we stay? Newish to DC area and unfamiliar with the various beach options. Thanks in advance.

Bethany is your best bet. You’re probably too late for in town accommodations, but I’m sure there are bay places still available and it’s an easy drive or even shuttle bus (depending on the location) into town.

Three-ish hours is the DelMarVa peninsula. (And maybe the stretch between Cape May and North Wildwood NJ if you stop the clock at the Lewes DE ferry terminal — which for little kids is a pretty fun way to travel.) For that age, one stretch of sand is pretty much like another. Ocean City isn’t the most glamorous or Pottery Barn-compliant, but it boasts a huge number of rental options, including lots of condos. Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood are also walkable and family-friendly. You may want to avoid Wildwood itself, which tends to run younger and drunker.

Another option might be Chincoteague Island, driving over to Assateague for the beaches and ponies.

You’ll be able to find something bayside in ocean city. It’s not the nicest town, but it’s skinny, so you can easily walk to the beach from pretty much anywhere.

Check here for weekly rentals that are still available.
