ACPS - Opting out of Summer School - Will Clever applications be available?

Anonymous
We will be opting our kids out of ACPS Summer School. We participated in summer school last year but don't really feel it needed this summer. We would like to continue to access the various reading, math and coding apps in Clever. Does anyone know whether Clever will continue to remain accesible to students who opt out of summer school?

FWIW, I will ask the classroom teachers and principals but I have found that they don't know the answer to technology or summer school-related questions and I need to find someone with central office who can answer the question.

That's a great question (I unfortunately don't know the answer to.) I would love to keep access to dream box and reading eggs this summer. We also opted out of summer school.

My best guess would be yes. It seems unlikely that ACPS would sort out and block users only for the summer, since these apps will likely still be used in the fall.

Teachers should have the answers to these very simple questions. Does no one in admin or central office anticipate the kinds of questions parents may have and supply teachers with answers accordingly?

Well, they shut down epic accounts on the weekends. So that tells me everything may be shut down for summer.

Hahahahaha - actually made me laugh out loud. Teachers are often the last to know anything. As poorly as ACPS communicates with parents and families, teachers have it way worse. And they don't have the ability to contact school board, or complain to Dr Hutchings without serious professional ramifications.

ACPS doesn’t shut down EPIC - that’s actually
EPIC that shuts it down outside of school hours beyond 2 hours I think. If you can afford it I would definitely do the extra EPIC subscription because they have been extremely generous during the pandemic.

ACPS teacher and yeah I guess I don’t know the answers to these questions but I really hope they will be accessible- will definitely ask if I get the chance so I can start advocating that
My kids use these apps regularly during the summer!

PP you quoted. I agree. My point was the same--that they indeed tell teachers nothing.

Yup, the teachers and parents are always the last to know. It speaks volume about the lack of value ACPS/Hutchings/SB places on both. Always Last. And then blamed by ACPS for ACPS' inadequacies. vilified and punished if you speak out. It's toxic.
