You're leaving out most of the other findings related to Trump's immigration policy that were part of the same poll:

*A slight majority feel the administration's deportation efforts are prioritizing people they believe are dangerous criminals. Those who say this are very supportive of the program, and feel the program is making people in the U.S. safer. But if people don't think it is dangerous criminals who are the focus of the deportation effort, support drops dramatically.

*In terms of how many people the administration is trying to deport, more is not necessarily better in the public mind.

*Half of Americans say Trump is deporting more people than they thought he would during the 2024 campaign. And most in this group disapprove of the deportation program.

*On that topic of process, big percentages of Americans continue to say it is not acceptable if legal residents are mistakenly deported as part of the program.

*Unlike the net-positive views about safety, more Americans think the deportation program will weaken than strengthen the economy.

*A larger share of Americans say immigrants generally fill jobs Americans won't do.

*Trump's approval rating on immigration continues to be higher than his marks on the economy and inflation. As has typically been the case in his second term, he gets his highest specific ratings from Republicans on immigration. His overall job approval remains unchanged (55% disapproval).

You claimed the 50 percent approval rating was false or came from fox news. I showed you a link to multiple polls proving my point.

And yes, as you note, his approval ratings on immigration are his highest.

I didn't claim anything. You're talking to someone else. Your initial facts check out. I just said that you left some other poll findings out--and I listed them. I also provided a link to the poll. The reality is that attitudes about immigration tend to fall along party lines. That's another thing that the poll discussed. The overwhelming support for Miller's initiatives (because he is behind most of them) come from MAGA, not from Dems.

Wrong again.

Nearly half of independents support Trump on deportation.

How can I be wrong? I literally cut and pasted from the article you referred to and which I linked to. I didn't even mention independents.

“The overwhelming support for Miller's initiatives (because he is behind most of them) come from MAGA, not from Dems.”

Wrong, the support comes from republicans and independents. See link. Not sure why this is confusing to you?

Then why can’t Newsome get a hold on it without federal help? Why is the LAPD saying things are out of control?

NP. This is making for good TV, but only a very small area of downtown LA. I don’t know why it’s blown up in the media. I do think Trump is looking for a fight. He knows this will galvanize people back to him.

He knows how to use TV to his benefit.

Did Newsom ask for federal help?

Did the LAPD say it was out of control?

Yes see the LAPD comments in the WSJ link above.

We're talking about two different articles. I'm talking about the one from CBS itself reporting on its own poll. You linked to a different article in USA Today discussing the poll. The CBS article says the following about independents (again, I'm just copying directly from the article).

"A lot of this is partisan, and over time, it has become even more so. Independents aren't as supportive of the deportation program as they were a couple of months ago, leaving the GOP base as the only partisan group with majority backing of the program now. But it is an overwhelming one among Republicans."

Still, it wasn’t clear early Sunday whether deploying troops was necessary or would be constructive. But asked late Sunday if the National Guard were needed, L.A. police chief Jim McDonnell responded: “Well, looking at tonight, this thing has gotten out of control.”

… Mr. Newsom said the President’s calling in the National Guard is an “unmistakable step toward authoritarianism,” which is transparent hyperbole. The rarely used law Mr. Trump invoked allows such a deployment when “there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States.” Rioters are certainly rebelling against the authority of immigration enforcement.

The airwaves and social media are saturated with footage of protesters waving Mexican flags atop burning cars, carrying signs claiming California is “Stolen land” and chanting “We don’t want ICE or police!” Mr. Newsom really is living in La La Land if he thinks Americans will side with such radicals over Mr. Trump.

Just responding to the Mexican claims to stolen land. The Mexicans should look at themselves, then. Their Spaniard lineage, if this is what they are claiming, is founded on Indigenous stolen land.

I unapologetically stand for free speech, peaceful demonstrations, and immigration—but this is not that.

This is anarchy and true chaos.

My party loses the moral high ground when we refuse to condemn setting cars on fire, destroying buildings, and assaulting law enforcement.

Really? How many of those 50% are aware that ICE is so wildly out of control that they actually detained a US Marshal in a mistaken identity case?

I bet you MOST of the 50% who are "fine" with everything going on are clueless.

You're out of touch. Studies show that many Mexicans have a majority indigenous ancestry. You seem to have forgotten that there were indiginous people in Mexico before the Spaniards came and that the Spaniards were a minority in Mexico and that the indigenous roots are still quite strong in Mexico.

Please Dems, continue to call Americans who disagree with you clueless. Condescension is always your best look.

“The Deputy US Marshal’s identity was quickly confirmed by other law enforcement officers, and he exited the building without incident,” said U.S. Marshals Service spokesperson Colleen Grayman.

Of course I know that, dumb dumb. Don’t fly the Mexican flag, then. Show flags of Indigenous nations.

He can, but trump illegally superceded him. LAPD put out notice it was under control, and then the feds ramped it up again.

The law allows for the president to send in troops in a rebellion like this. Newsome has lost control and federal agents and buildings much be protected. Pretty straight forward. Newsome couldn’t do his job.

The protestors were protexting themselves from the aggression by ICE. the facts matter and this whole thing, like most of Trump 1.0, is contrived to justify the ends.
