Do you just set up an iPad or do you have to do something more snazzy.
Kid is 1 year away from high school so want to know if I need to save for equipment, hire somebody or just do home movies on my phone/iPad This is a serious question from a non soccer oriented parent. Thanks! |
Find out if your club does this for you. Many now do - I would suggest most of the clubs at the level where many of the kids will have legitimate college aspirations. If you have to do it yourself, an iphone/ipad is probably not good enough. At the very least you will need a good tripod / stand to keep everything steady. But most parents who do this get a decent camera as well. |
I bought a veo camera and it’s been incredible. You get to enjoy the games while you dc is playing. Later you can clip highlights and create videos. Highly highly recommend. https://www.veo.co/us/camera/ |
This is pretty expensive though isn't it? How much does it cost? |
| Soloshot is an option as well. The kid wears a tracker and the camera follows them. I have never used one but some parents on the team do and it looks good. |
OK, I'm replying to my own comment. Just looked up the price and Soloshot costs a grand. I didn't know it was that expensive. Oops. |
|
Veo hands down, either the team should share the cost or just buy one for the team and your coach will love you. It's not that expensive, if you live in the DC Metro area come on you can afford it.
Then you can make your own highlight clips after you upload the games |
Camera $850 Tri-pod $250 Monthly subscription $100 |
What does the monthly subscription cover? Does it work without that? |
Np- search the forum. There were some detailed posts on this with links |
It covers the AI needed to follow the ball and the ability to make clips and highlights. |
|
No you can't do it without the subscription. It's expensive. The cheapest way to do this is to set up your own tripod with your ipad/iphone/android phone and manually move the camera and hope you get your child's best moves.
You can hire a local student to edit the clips together if you're not good at tech. |
We use a camcorder. It's better than veo for closeups, but you probably should stand on a stool or in the stands. |

Trace does the work for you. Every time your player touches the ball it creates a clip. The players wear a small sensor that tracks each of them, so everyone gets their own clips. You can rent the system by the season and have the parents chip in or possibly the club would rent it. |
| I also recommend VEO. It’s some of the best times watching your child play. You don’t want to manually record every game — trust me. It’s an investment in their future well spent. |
