APS: Distance Learning requirements

Does anyone know what APS is going to require for a family to sign up for distance learning, such as a doctor's note explaining why a kid can't be in school? Other districts are doing this to ensure that only those for whom in-school learning is a hardship will be able to stay home. Under the law, kids are supposed to spend their days in school, and not working for pay, traveling, or babysitting.

So far, they will require nothing apart from the parent/guardian completing the online form. They are asking people to state why they choose DL (or in-person) but there is no requirement to provide anything. Based on the current state of APS, they will not make anyone prove that they're not working for pay or babysitting. I don't think they care.

There have been stories in APS of kids who took jobs to support their families during COVID and were calling in to class from their breaks. There have also been stories of HS kids put in charge of their younger siblings so parents can work. I know many APS families don't care but I agree that this is an issue. I do not want HS kids to be robbed of their education. If DL works great for some kids, then great, I hope they can stick with it, but not at the expense of being able to have a childhood.

FFX Co. is requiring proof of medical need. This is from their website:

What Will Virtual Learning Look Like in the Fall?
We are looking forward to FCPS students and staff returning to in-person learning for five days this fall! We understand some students, in very limited circumstances, may have a documented health or medical need for virtual instruction. With that in mind, enrollment in our Virtual Program will be very limited.
Here is what we anticipate for FCPS’ Virtual Program for the 2021-22 school year:
While FCPS will offer as many course options as possible, some specialized programs and courses will NOT be available in the Virtual Program.
FIVE DAYS OF VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION
• Semester-long commitment.
• Classes will be offered in a 100% virtual format and match in-person school schedules to the greatest extent possible.Includes asynchronous time for screen and movement breaks
• Will be taught by FCPS teachers from across the division.

Really? ES is taking babies and kids 5 and under now?

+1 It can also allow abuse to go on undetected.

I think even Distance Learning will have drastically different requirements next year. Teachers are vaccinated and will be able to check up on kids much more closely.
