My baby screams for at least 10 mins before going down for each nap. I imagine other babies do this too and maybe even longer and harder. Or wake up at different times crying. How do kids nap well at daycare if they are all in the same room? |
The truth: not well if at all. Being in a bright room with loud noises and 8-14 other screaming infants just doesn’t work well for naps. What happens more is kids pass out and have crap naps from exhaustion and then are totally beat by the end of the day. At least while they are infants. |
Well the above sounds lovely |
Are you asking about tiny infants or toddlers? The tiny infants at our daycare don't seem to nap at the same time. They get their bottles, then rocked to sleep and put down. I've stopped in many times and rarely seen more than 2 or 3 cribs occupied at a time in a room of 10.
The toddlers know the drill. They eat lunch, get diaper changes or go potty, then nap on their mats. |
PP. Also, the cribs are in a separate part of the room that is kept darker. I think they may also play some quiet music or noises. |
The infants at my daycare sleep on their own schedules. They have a separate nap room and it’s quiet in there. The toddlers have a set schedule. The room is darkened and they play soothing music. The kids sleep for two hours straight. |
Infants get used to it. My kids could sleep anywhere because of it. There wasn't much screaming in the infant rooms when I was there (which was often as I would come at lunch to bf). The workers seemed magical at getting kids to sleep. |
But when one infant woke up, doesn’t that wake every one else up? My baby cries once he wakes up. |
You'll find that children of any age act very differently in daycare/preschool/elementary school/middle school/high school than they do at home. |
I remember my then 5 month old took a 2 hour nap his first week in daycare. I went to pick him up (he wasn't doing full days yet) and I actually left and got coffee because he was so asleep.
They will rock the babies for sure instead if letting them cry but it didn't interfere with sleep training for my kid. |
I think it depends on the kid. Most kids adapt and do great, and as a bonus, can then sleep anywhere.
Some kids never sleep well in daycare as infants. My kid was SUCH a finicky sleeper we knew daycare would be a disaster, so we ended up doing a nanny share. |
Mine didn’t nap well at daycare until they were a bit older... but they didn’t nap well at home either. They didn’t settle into a good nap routine until they were down to one nap. |
Mine never had a problem. They seem to tune out other kids screaming. My older infant and toddler share a room and one screaming does not impact the other. Historically kids shared rooms. |
Some in swings, some in arms, some in cribs. Eventually they all got on a similar schedule. The crib portion of the room was darkened and had a white noise machine.
Both my daughters napped well at daycare, 1.5 hours. |
Not usually. They learn to sleep through it. Most babies cry when they wake. |
