| Are turf cleats important for playing on artificial turf fields (mostly MCPS locations)? DS has a tryout but he only has regular old cleats and we can’t find turf cleats anywhere in stock in men’s sizes. If they are a necessity, any suggestions for stores that tend to be well stocked in MD or NVa? |
| No, not really. 99% of players use regular cleats for outdoor turf fields. What DS has will be fine (unless he needs new cleats and not turf shoes. |

You could try Soccer Kicks in Arlington if you decide to go the turf specific route.

| Most AG cleats work great outside on turf. Turf shoes work best on indoor turf. but most FG cleats work well outdoor. |

| Keep your regular cleats. New shoes at a tryout may not be best anyway. But to answer your question, pjs soccer worked best for us. There's also dick's and Rockville soccer. |
I will second this. Do not wear brand new cleats at tryouts. Wear what you are used to wearing, so you know how they feel and perform. Break in new cleats at practice. |
| My kids (U13 & U16) have ALWAYS worn regular cleats on turf. Every kid on their teams is in regular cleats. They have played almost exclusively on turf for many years. Also- if it’s raining “turf shoes” slip easily. |
+3 My kid looked like crap at one tryout when he insisted on wearing brand new laceless cleats. He was shuffling like he was wearing house slippers, running like he was in quick sand. Just awful. I magic erased and returned those things the next day. Thankfully, he recovered enough in his old cleats at subsequent tryouts to make the team. |
LOL! I chuckled at this visual. Sorry for your ds but thanks for the laugh. |

If you want a great Cleat consult and advice I recommend Rockville Soccer (also Sterling Soccer). Our DD has narrow, long feet and their sales staff know their stuff, had her try several brands all within her foot profile and style of play. https://www.rockvillesoccer.com/

| We love Rockville Soccer. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. |
| PJ's Sports is excellent. I've found them to be much better stocked than Rockville Soccer. |
