| How do you freeze food like soups? |
| Pyrex glass containers can be put in the freezer. A lot of people also use silicon molds to freeze the soup, then transfer to another container for storage once frozen. |
| Especially if you use glass though, make sure to leave plenty of space on the inside for expansion. It'll break if you don't and it over-expands. |

Isn't pyrex dangerous. I know it can explode out of the oven. (Do an internet search-it happened to a friend and it's very common). I think freezing it may have the same risk.
Wish I had something to suggest. |
| I use glass containers. There are directions/warnings/instructions that come with the containers and explain how to avoid having them shatter. One (non-health) advantage over plastic -- they don't get all stained!!!! |
| I let the soup cool, then I freeze it in plastic containers or Ziplocs. However, when I'm ready to use it, I thaw it out a little and transfer it to a glass container or the pan for cooking. As long as you don't heat it in plastic, it should be OK. |
| I put it in plastic bags and then immerse it in cold water when i want to use it. The water allows the soup to pull away from the plastic then you may heat it on the stove or the pirex dish. |

I freeze chicken broth, tomato sauce, etc. in washed-out apple sauce and spaghetti sauce bottles. I fill the bottles 2/3 fill to avoid breaking when they are frozen. I use pyrex for storing food in the refrigerator and only occasionally for storing food in the freezer. It doesn't shatter, at least never for me. The only time pyrex has shattered is when I put a hot pyrex pan in the sink and poured cold water on it. Dumb.
I used to store food in ziplocks, but have been reading too much about chemicals in plastics leaching into food, so I switched to glass. It's more recyclable too, so it's greener. |
| OP here thanks everyone! I was afraid to put glass in the freezer, but I guess I will try it. |
